I provide a quality preschool program throughout the day and am open from 7:30 am- 5:30 pm. I have a Bachelor's degree in Child Development, eight years of nannying experience, and two years of experience as a preschool teacher. I have been providing the same program in my home for six years now as a licensed daycare provider. Please feel free to contact me to schedule a visit!
This is when the children sit together on their mats (each child designs their own) and I initiate the conversation about topics such as the weather, the calendar, days of the week, who is present that day, the seasons, or an upcoming holiday/event. This is also the time when we will have a discussion about our theme for the week and what project we have for that particular day. This group time helps the children learn concepts and time and space while gaining new vocabulary words.
During this time children can choose from a variety of activities in the classroom (e.g., puzzles, dress-up/house/dramatic play, Lego table, computer, drawing, painting, etc). This gives them an opportunity to initiate their own play, either alone or with other children. Free time helps teach children to work independently, take turns, share, and play cooperatively with others.
*Special group activities:
These include music, dancing, obstacle courses, science or math project, cooking/baking, etc.
*We have discussions during story time about the illustrations and the story's plot. I will ask questions about the story, helping the children to learn to predict what will happen next. I will be encouraging them to think about the characters and plot as well as using vocabulary from the story.
Some other learning activities are...
Shapes, colors, letters (one letter a week as a focus), numbers, indoor/outdoor games and activities, songs, poems, finger plays (including ones that relate to specific seasons/holidays), arts and crafts (we will have something special to create each day that reinforces our theme).
We also have "sunshine reports" about what we did each day and how each child felt. You can use these to encourage your child to talk to you about what they did that day.
